10 Must Required Essential Settings After Installing WordPress

You have seen that How to Create a WordPress Blog but after installing WordPress on the server you should make some changes in it.When you install WordPress, then there are no proper settings of themes, plugins, and content in your blog.

Required Essential settings after installing WordPress:

#1: Delete default posts & pages:

During the installation of WordPress, some dummy posts and pages are pre-installed on your blog so you should delete them.

Go to posts > all posts > “Hello World” post.

Now go to pages > all pages and delete sample page.

#2: Active Akismet plugin to prevent spam comments:

This one of the best plugin out there in wordpress plugin directory. It removes spammy comments from your blog which is required.

When you install WordPress, a plugin named Akismet is installed by default. You should active it by going to an Akismet plugin > installed plugin > active Akismet.

After activating Akismet plugin, you have to get Akismet API key, and for that, you have to register with Akismet official website.

#3: Set up WordPress permalink:

Permalink is the very important factor for getting good SEO score. The default WordPress permalink is like http://yourdomainname.com/p=123 it is short but not useful for search engines. So you should change the permalink to your post name which could search engine understand easily. After changing permalink, it looks like http://yourdomainname.com/this-is-first-post.

Go to Settings > Permalink and select post name and click on save.When you select post title at that time, you should choose right keywords for better SEO score.

#4: Set time zone, date format, and time format:

Changing default time zone is most important for enhancing blog security. It also helpful when you schedule any post. You could change the time zone to local time.

Go to settings > general > timezone, date format and time format.

In general settings, you should change your website name and tagline. Enter your email to get notifications of your website. There is no major difference between www or non-www website URL, and you can change frequently.

#5: Change default admin account:

If you have chosen a custom username and password while installing WordPress, then this section is not for you. But if your username is “admin” then you have to choose a custom username to prevent dangerous attacks on the blog. Remember one thing that you should choose mix characters password (Strong password) like @#dhf2#3jpg.

Go to users > add new then give it admin rights and delete default user(username = admin).

#6: Disable users registration:

If you don’t need new people on your blog, then you should disable users registration feature. Some people also enter spam comment, and it might be a pain for you. This feature helps for who need a guest post. But if you want to require guest post then you can add it by a new user in users section.

Go to settings > general > membership then unchecked anyone can register and click on save.

#7: WordPress discussion settings:

#8: Update WordPress ping list:

By default, WordPress provides only one ping service, but you should update ping list for indexing new post on search engines quickly. When you publish the new post, then this ping services automatically index on search engines.
